Armpits Hair Aftercare: What to Do (and Avoid) in the First 72 Hours

I hear this all the time: “the staff was very professional and made sure I was comfortable during the laser.” Good care doesn’t stop when you walk out the door. The single most important rule for the first 72 hours after armpit laser hair removal is keep the area cool and calm. That means no deodorant for 24 to 72 hours, no heat, no heavy sweating, and no friction. If you do those basics well, the underarm skin usually settles quickly and you set yourself up for better shedding and better long-term reduction.

First 24–48 hours: keep armpits hair calm, dry, and irritation-free

Right after your appointment, it’s normal to see mild redness or feel a warm, sunburn-like sensation in the underarm area. In Western Hilliard, especially in our humid summers, heat and sweat can drag that irritation out longer than it needs to. I generally recommend treating your underarms like you would treat fresh, sensitive skin.

What I want you to avoid right away

Days 3–7: shedding is normal, but waxing and plucking will set you back

This is the week where people start overthinking every little dot. Keep your underarms clean and dry, keep friction low, and let the follicles do their thing. It’s common for underarm armpit hair to look like it’s “growing” again, but what you’re often seeing is hair beginning to loosen and push out.

A lot of my first-time laser clients tell me they were nervous going in, then felt comfortable throughout the process. I want your aftercare to feel the same way: clear, step-by-step, no drama. If you notice little “peppery” stubble, don’t pick at it. Don’t scrub it. Let it shed.
